We are looking for a highly skilled Front End Engineer to create exceptional user experiences for our cutting-edge biology platform. You will join an interdisciplinary team of machine learners, protein engineers and biologists, jointly working to change the way that we control biology and cure diseases. In your role, you will craft delightful, intuitive interfaces that make complex biological data accessible and engaging, contributing to ground breaking science through exceptional user experience design.

Who you are

• You are a frontend specialist with expertise in TypeScript and JavaScript
• You are passionate about creating delightful user experiences and have a proven track record of building beautiful, responsive, and performant web applications
• You have deep expertise with modern frontend frameworks, understanding their inner workings and best practices
• You excel at UI/UX design implementation experience, creating pixel-perfect, accessible interfaces
• You have a solid understanding of HTTP protocols, REST APIs, websockets, and DOM manipulation
• You understand web security best practices and frontend authentication patterns
• You have an eye for design and track record of creating intuitive and innovative interfaces
• You're obsessed with creating smooth, fast user experiences and know how to optimize frontend performance

What sets you apart

• 3D rendering expertise: You have hands-on experience with WebGL and creating immersive 3D web experiences
• Scientific visualization background: You've built interfaces for molecular or protein visualisation and understand the unique challenges of scientific data presentation
• Design systems: You have experience building and maintaining component libraries and design systems

Your responsibilities

• Craft delightful user experiences: Create the most graphically stunning and intuitive web interfaces for protein and biological data visualization
• Build responsive, performant UIs: Develop front-end components that handle complex scientific data while maintaining excellent performance
• Technical leadership: Lead our front end architecture and have a strong level of influence over technology. Our current stack is React, Tailwind, NextJS, Kubernetes and AWS.
• Component architecture: Design and maintain reusable UI components and frontend architecture
• Frontend performance optimization: Ensure lightning-fast load times and smooth interactions across all user interfaces
• Cross-browser compatibility: Ensure consistent experiences across different browsers and devices
• User experience testing: Write and maintain frontend tests, including unit tests and end-to-end user journey testing
• Collaborate on design: Work closely with science teams to translate complex biological concepts into intuitive user interfaces
