Frontend Engineer (London) at hyperexponential (hx).

Engineering at hyperexponential (hx) is transforming the traditional insurance industry with our SaaS platform hx Renew. Insurers use it to build complex mathematical models for smarter, faster pricing decisions. hx Renew enables rapid development and iteration of pricing models in Python and React within a modern software environment, reducing delivery time from months to days. Our product is trusted by industry giants and innovators alike.

Your mission is to drive user experience and delivery of complex workflows within hx Renew as a frontend specialist embedded in a cross-functional team. You will empower modellers, user-developers, and admins by building robust, clear, and reliable interfaces aligned with hx’s design language and design system. You will collaborate with frontend peers across hx to ensure consistency and high quality across UIs.

Responsibilities

• Own the development, enhancement, and support of workflow-related UI features in hx Renew’s frontend using and extending hx’s design system and component library (shadcn + tailwindcss).
• Implement and maintain accessible UI components for complex user journeys.
• Collaborate with backend engineers and product specialists to clarify requirements and deliver user-friendly solutions.
• Work with designers to translate Figma mockups into production-ready components using hx’s design system.
• Engage with frontend engineers from other hx teams: share pattern updates, participate in code reviews, uphold and improve consistency and standards.
• Contribute to the team’s Product Domain through proactive UI/UX and usability fixes.
• Write and maintain unit and integration tests; support CI/CD reliability.
• Contribute documentation and share knowledge related to the team and wider frontend engineering community at hx.

Required Experience And Skills

• Solid understanding of modern frontend architecture principles, including component design, state management, scalability, and maintainability.
• Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript and React (primary hx frontend stack).
• Experience building and maintaining complex, multi-page SPAs in a commercial setting.
• Ability to extend/maintain a shared component library, following design tokens and accessibility best practices.
• Experience developing, debugging, and optimising UI components for data-heavy workflows and API integration.
• Ability to work independently under guidance from Senior Engineers and Managers, leveraging a distributed frontend community.
• Familiarity with frontend tooling: vitejs, nx, jest, vitest, testing-library.
• Proficient in test design and maintenance (unit, component, CI/CD).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Bonus Points

• Experience extending or customising shadcn/ui components in production.
• Experience with component libraries/design systems, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn.
• Experience with accessibility and performance optimisations using Tailwind utility classes.
• Experience with B2B SaaS, ideally in insurance or finance.
• Contributions to shared frontend infrastructure or internal documentation.
