Overview

AECOM Birmingham, United Kingdom is hiring a Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist to join our Ground Engineering team in Birmingham. We welcome candidates from a traditional geotechnical engineering/engineering geology background or with unconventional experience that adds value.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery: Manage tasks and assist the team with the delivery of projects, ensuring technical quality and adherence to budget and programme.
  • Provide Expertise: Contribute to team and client technical review meetings; own decisions and propose alternative ideas and concepts.
  • Commercial: Maintain high levels of client satisfaction and respond to client requirements.
  • Mentoring: Support personal and professional development and assist colleagues.
  • The role involves applying geotechnical design from desk study/feasibility through to ground investigation, interpretation, and final design including preparation of specifications, interpretive reports, construction drawings and design reports.

Qualifications

  • BEng / MEng in Civil Engineering, BSc / MSc in Geology, Engineering Geology, Earth Science or MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology (desirable).
  • Chartered Engineer (IEng/CEng) or Chartered Geologist (CGeol) is desirable but not required; support will be provided to achieve if pursued.
  • Understanding of current design codes, standards, and best practices in geotechnical design; openness to new methods and innovations.
  • Ability to collaborate in project delivery and maintain client satisfaction.
  • Experience in authoring Geotechnical Desktop Studies, Coal Mining Risk Assessments, Geotechnical Specifications and Interpretative Geotechnical Reports.
  • Knowledge of ground conditions interpretation and correlation methods for common geotechnical design problems.
  • Experience in geotechnical design (earthworks, foundations, retaining structures, slope stabilization) with strong analytical skills and familiarity with geotechnical design software.
  • Experience producing geotechnical analysis and design packages, including drawings, risk assessments, specifications and design reports.
  • Good knowledge of UK ground conditions and ground investigation practices; experience in design, specification and management of ground investigation.
  • Awareness of CDM Regulations / Safety in Design in a design and ground investigation environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reports and documents.
  • Clean driving licence and willingness to travel across the UK.
