Join us.Job DescriptionOur Transmission and Distribution team are currently seeking graduates to work in our Edinburgh or Glasgow office from June 26 onwards.About our TeamCommitted to addressing the complete spectrum of energy challenges, we offer expertise in the following sectors: renewable energy (wind and solar), Battery Energy Storage Systems, hydropower, bioenergy (including energy from waste), energy efficiency and carbon management, thermal power generation, nuclear power and transmission and distribution.The Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Engineering team provides a range of services from the initial concept through Power Systems Analysis, Cabling, Substations, Transmission and Distribution Infrastructure, System Balancing and Compensation, Protection Systems, SCADA, Communications, Converter Station Design, HVDC Systems and Interconnectors including overseas links.We provide development, design, maintenance and project management for all services and comply with client and other stakeholder’s quality, technical, commercial, safety and environmental requirements. Regular site visits to construction sites for substations, cables and overhead lines would be a feature of this role.AECOM is part of the Great Grid Upgrade programme in a Joint Venture with Arup. As a partner within the programme, we are responsible for delivering design, environment and consenting services within the strategic programme of works.Here's what you'll do:The successful candidate will primarily be working on transmission assets in the Republic of Ireland or the UK, but the team is working on multiple projects in Europe and further afield and some international travel may be required.Regular site visits to construction sites for substations, cables and overhead lines would be a feature of this role.We encourage membership and networking activities in industry bodies such as Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), IEI, CIGRE.When a graduate starts with AECOM, we pair them with a senior member of the team who will guide and mentor them through their initial period working on live projects and business development proposals.Their initial role be involved in a selection of activities potentially including:Conceptual DesignPower Network Design, Power System Analysis & Studies using DigSILENT, PSCAD, PSS/E etc.Load & Demand Forecasting, System Stability AnalysisSubstation Site SelectionSubstation DesignGround Resistivity Measurement & Earthing System Design using CDE3D Substation & Switchyard Layout VisualizationLightning Protection System DesignOverhead & Underground Cable System DesignInterconnector Studies & DesignTransformer & Switchgear Selection & InstallationOptions Selection & EvaluationValue EngineeringHV Cable studies using CYMCAPEnjoy the PerksHere is what you will get from us!On the job support and learningWhen a graduate starts at AECOM, we pair them with a senior member of the team who will guide and mentor them through their initial period working on live projects and business development tasks, to support with any technical queries.Graduate Development ProgrammeOur 2 year graduate ADVANCE programme is designed to help you build your career in AECOM. You will attend a number of instructor-led training sessions where you will meet and hear from people across the business and take part in a series of interactive activities to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in your role.QualificationsHere’s what we’re looking for:BSc/BEng in Electrical/Power Engineering, with a 2:1 classification (or equivalent) or aboveMSc/MEng in Electrical/Power Engineering would be an advantageMust have completed HV & Power related course work or module optionsExperience with AutoCAD and AutoCAD 3D is preferredPython or other scripting skills would be an advantageAbility to structure & prioritise work effectively through close cooperation with the team as a wholeAbility to work in a team and independently without losing initiative & focusGood numerical skillsAbility to communicate effectively to internal and external clients, both verbally & in writing with the confidence to engage with a variety of people (clients, colleagues, stakeholders and sub-contractors alike) and the aptitude to rationally explain, explore and discuss technical issues and capture feedbackGood Microsoft Office skills essential such as Word, Excel & PowerPointExcellent research and report writing skillsStrong attention to detailAbility to work in a team and independently without losing initiative & focus.Enthusiastic, hard-working, with ambition and driveDesirableFull driving license and willingness to travel on occasion is desirable (some site travel with equipment may be required)We celebrate diversity, including neurodiversity, and believe it enriches our team.
