The Graduate Development Programme is a structured two-year scheme designed to support your development at the start of your Jacobs career journey. Through blended learning, mentoring, progress reviews and networking, you will establish yourself as knowledgeable and competent across four key focus areas: human skills, consulting skills, champion our strategy and your passions.
The GDP lets you customise your learning journey to reflect your specific interests, career goals and technical skillset, creating a graduate experience that is unique to you. The programme is largely on-the-job; you’ll work with your manager and mentor to collect learning experiences that are meaningful for you. It’s a launchpad for your career, offering tools, experiences and support to work on meaningful projects and collaborate with industry leaders to deliver outcomes and solutions for complex challenges.
About The Opportunity
Jacobs is a market leader in the transportation sector, working with major clients such as National Highways, Transport for Scotland, Transport Infrastructure Ireland, Heathrow Ltd, Environmental Agency and the Welsh Government. From global mega-projects like King Salman International Airport to local initiatives with councils and transport authorities, we offer opportunities to make a real impact—both worldwide and in your own community.
The successful candidate will receive on-the-job training using the latest software tools and exposure to a varied mix of projects from concept to construction. You will assist and support colleagues in the preparation of feasibility studies, scheme reports, impact assessments and production of detailed designs to support the enhancement and renewal of lighting and electrical systems on both public and private sector projects throughout the UK & Ireland.
As a new graduate within our Power & Lighting team you will have the opportunity to contribute to Jacobs’ growth across national strategic infrastructure, urban developments and specialist sites. The start date for this position is September 2026.
Responsibilities
- Assist and support colleagues in the preparation of feasibility studies, scheme reports, impact assessments and production of detailed designs to support the enhancement and renewal of lighting and electrical systems on both public and private sector projects throughout the UK & Ireland.
- Work with the Power & Lighting team on diverse projects across national strategic infrastructure, urban developments and specialist sites.
- Receive on-the-job training and contribute to project work from concept through to construction using the latest software tools.
Qualifications
- Be working towards a Degree or Master’s level qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- A flexible self-starter who is keen to drive your career forward
- Adaptable to change, with a thirst for learning new things
- You must have the permanent right to work in the UK
