OverviewWe have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Research Software Engineer, with an interest in providing Applications Support to users of platforms running the Linux operating system, to join the Technical Solutions and Operations Group within The Hartree Centre.ResponsibilitiesInstall and configure software applications and utilities on Linux systems.Collaborate on the development of specific software tools, utilities and programs.Create and maintain accurate documentation of procedures and configurations.Timely delivery of project work to specification and within budget.Advocate standard process and new or revised technical procedures to colleagues.Appropriate participation within the schedule of public engagement events for the Hartree Centre.Work optimally within the centre systems architecture, local and corporate policies, and our change management procedure, developing and articulating compliant solutions.We are looking forWe are looking for a teammate with professional communication and interpersonal skills who can work optimally with all partners including colleagues and users of our services. This is a great role for someone who can demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities and the ability to show sound judgement. Especially if you are a critical thinker who regularly demonstrates initiative and is willing and keen to learn new skills with a natural interest in new computing techniques and technologies.The successful graduate will be presented with the opportunity to work independently and in small multi-disciplinary groups on projects designed to deliver enhancements to our infrastructure and services.QualificationsAchieved, or be on course to achieve, a minimum 2:1 degree, in a relevant field of study.Have the right to live and work in the UK at time of starting employment.Software development experience with Bash, Python or a compiled programming language.Practical experience of the Linux operating system.Superb communication skills.Effective organisational, time management and problem-solving skills - able to prioritise and to deliver against work plans.Standout colleague - not afraid to ask for support, keen to support colleagues.The post requires a National Security Vetting clearance to "SC" level for which specific eligibility requirements apply.Desirable:Experience of GPU-centric technologies.Familiarity with (preferably) scientific application software.About the Hartree Centre and opportunitiesAt the Hartree Centre, we want to see UK businesses outperforming their global competitors.
