A leading higher education institution in London is seeking a proactive Cyber Security Engineer to strengthen its security posture and protect critical digital assets. This role offers the opportunity to work across a wide range of technologies in a complex and dynamic environment, supporting teaching, research, and operational excellence.

Role Overview:

You will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and improving the organisation’s cyber security controls, ensuring compliance with security policies, and responding to threats in real time. The position spans both proactive risk mitigation and hands-on incident response, with a focus on Microsoft, Azure, and Windows environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and manage security tools, including SIEM, endpoint protection, and vulnerability management systems.
  • Analyse and respond to security alerts, incidents, and threats, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption.
  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing activities.
  • Maintain and improve security configurations for Microsoft 365 and Azure environments.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to embed security best practices in projects and infrastructure changes.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and sector security standards.
  • Develop and deliver staff awareness training on cyber security.
  • Proven experience in a cyber security engineering or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of Windows Server, Microsoft 365, and Azure security tools and configurations.
  • Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms, endpoint protection, and identity management.
  • Knowledge of vulnerability scanning, patch management, and incident response procedures.
  • Understanding of networking security principles (firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Higher education or public sector experience.
  • Relevant security certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, Microsoft SC-900/SC-200, CISSP).
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as Cyber Essentials, NIST, or ISO 27001.
