Metis is looking to fill a Highway Infrastructure Engineer role to oversee and manage project delivery.

The Highway Infrastructure Engineer role combines big-picture strategic thinking with an ability to lead teams towards innovative solutions. You will ensure that our infrastructure plans are forward-thinking and have a solid technical foundation, delivering extraordinary value to our local authority clients and the general public. Youll also support local authority client relationships, and take commercial accountability for projects and supporting future pipelines.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in the highway industry and strong technical judgement and knowledge.

Key objectives

The Highway Infrastructure Engineer role will support the delivery of:

  • Highway Asset Management Plans (HAMPs)
  • Maintenance Management Plans (MMPs)
  • Lifecycle Models and Investment Strategies
  • Carbon and Environmental Management
  • Maintenance Work Programmes
  • Performance Management Frameworks

In Delivering These, The Role Will

  • Apply fundamental understanding of highway legislation, policy strategy and local authority duties
  • Integrate risk-based, whole-life asset management across planning, design, maintenance and operations
  • Support the end-to-end delivery of projects, including monitoring project performance and identifying risks
  • Own and maintain trusted client relationships
  • Help drive business growth through proactive pipeline management
  • Support mentoring and training of junior Metis employees
  • Embed sustainability and PAS:2080 principles into every project
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement

Qualifications, Skills And Experience

  • Experience (either in consultancy or client-side) in strategic highway asset management
  • Proven track record in managing projects, portfolios, finances and risk
  • Strong knowledge of highway legislation, guidance and policy (e.g. Highways Act, NRSWA, Code of Practice for WMHI, London Mayors Transport Strategy)
  • Proficiency with highway asset management systems, activities and datasets
  • Exceptional stakeholder, communication and client relationship management skills
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills

Desirable

  • Ability to critically review technical work and provide feedback
  • Familiarity with sustainability assessments, carbon calculations and/or circular economy principles
  • Proficiency with technical tools such as Microsoft Power BI and QGIS
