Highways/Drainage Engineer

Location: Leeds/Manchester (Hybrid - Ideally 3 days/week in office)
Contract Type: Inside IR35
Duration: Initial 6 months (likely extension)
Rate: £45-£50/hour Inside IR35

About the Role:

We are looking to appoint an experienced Highways/Drainage Engineer to support a range of local highway improvement schemes. The successful candidate will take a lead technical role within the team, overseeing the design work of others while managing their own workload.
The work will primarily involve supporting non-highways development projects with local road and drainage design, working with a DMB (Design and Build) contract under a Local Authority (LA) client.

Key Responsibilities:

·Lead on the design of local and regional highways improvement projects.
·Undertake design reviews and provide technical oversight of other designers' work.
·Prepare and check drawings and documentation to appropriate standards.
·Liaise with stakeholders and collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
·Support highway drainage design tasks where required.
·Ensure all work complies with relevant technical, safety, and legal standards.

Essential Skills & Experience:

·Significant experience in local and regional highway design - not strategic highways.
·Proficient in Civil 3D and MicroDrainage.
·Proven ability to check and sign off on others' design work.
·Strong understanding of UK design standards and highway design best practices.
·Able to manage own workload efficiently while mentoring others.

Desirable:

·Based in Yorkshire or Manchester regions.
·Previous experience working under a DMB contract with a Local Authority.
·Chartership is not required for this role.

Working Arrangement:

·Hybrid role - ideally 3 days/week in the Leeds or Manchester office.
·Flexibility available based on individual circumstances.
