About The Department

Aberdeen’s HR Systems Squad sits within the Corporate Technology Office and is responsible for managing our core HR systems, with Workday as our strategic tool of choice. We are live with Workday Core HCM, Recruitment, Payroll, Extend, Talent and Help. With an exciting roadmap ahead, we aim to further enhance our systems architecture and embed improved ways of working over the next three years.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HRIS Senior Engineer with deep expertise in Workday to lead the design, development, and optimisation of our HR technology ecosystem. This role will act as a technical lead and subject matter expert, ensuring the Workday platform is configured and maintained to support evolving business needs across HR, Payroll, Talent, and Finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Product Owner to deliver a prioritised backlog.
  • Design and maintain integrations between Workday and third-party systems using Workday Studio, EIBs, Core Connectors, and REST/SOAP APIs.
  • Partner with HR, IT, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into scalable Workday solutions.
  • Manage system upgrades, testing, and integrations with third-party systems (e.g., payroll, benefits, ATS).
  • Develop and maintain calculated fields, condition rules, business processes, and custom reports.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior HRIS analysts and engineers.
  • Monitor Workday releases and recommend adoption of new features.
  • Ensure security roles and permissions align with organisational policies and compliance standards.
  • Proactively suggest system improvements based on business requirements.
  • Maintain documentation of system configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Engage with the Workday ecosystem and community.

About The Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Expertise in Workday Studio, EIB, Core Connectors, Web Services (REST/SOAP).
  • Proficiency in Workday Report Writer, Calculated Fields, and Business Process Framework.
  • Experience with integration tools (e.g., Boomi, MuleSoft, Azure Logic Apps).
  • Scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, PowerShell, JavaScript).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure) and SaaS application management.
  • Understanding of IAM and SSO/SAML configurations.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, Jira, and ServiceNow.
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR) and HR compliance standards.
