Electrical Controls Design Engineer

Hybrid – 3 days office (Basildon Essex) / 2 days WFH (Flexible) Salary: £40-55k + Paid Overtime

Are you an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with a passion for automation, control systems, and bringing complex machinery to life? About the Role

As an Electrical Controls Design Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of our project delivery, producing high-quality electrical designs using EPLAN Electric P8 (or similar CAD software). You’ll work closely with mechanical, software, and commissioning teams to ensure solutions meet performance requirements, regulatory standards, and customer expectations.

This is a varied and rewarding position where no two days are the same — from design and documentation to supporting builds, installations, and commissioning on cutting-edge automation projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

Design and develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts using EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical.

Create BOMs, terminal schedules, device tagging, and cable lists.

Turn customer specifications and internal briefs into accurate, compliant electrical documentation.

Collaborate with mechanical design engineers to ensure seamless integration of components.

*

Specify components, support procurement, and liaise with suppliers for technical details and quotations.

Provide technical support during build, installation, and commissioning phases.

*

Maintain documentation in line with quality standards and industry regulations.

*

Support safety system integration and ensure compliance with directives such as IEC (phone number removed), PUWER, and the Machinery Directive.

What We’re Looking For

✅ HNC / HND / BEng in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience) ✅ Experience designing industrial control systems or automation solutions ✅ Working knowledge of EPLAN Electric P8 (or AutoCAD Electrical / similar tools) ✅ Understanding of electrical standards and regulatory compliance ✅ Familiarity with UL standards (e.g. UL508A) – experience designing UL-marked control panels is a plus ✅ Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously ✅ Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-focused mindset
