Hydraulic Valve Design Engineer

Location: Coventry, UK Salary: £55,000 – £60,000 Contract Type: Permanent

We are seeking an experienced Hydraulic Valve Design Engineer to take ownership of the design and development of high-performance hydraulic valves used in safety-critical systems. This is a hands-on design role where you will be responsible for driving innovative solutions across the full product lifecycle — from initial concept and 3D design through to validation, testing, and production support.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Hydraulic Valve Design Engineer, you will:

Lead the design, modelling, and development of hydraulic valves and fluid power components. Use CAD and engineering analysis to produce innovative design solutions that meet stringent performance requirements. Conduct detailed design validation activities, including FEA, tolerance stack-ups, and performance simulations. Translate technical requirements into robust engineering designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards. Create and manage engineering documentation, including design reports and Engineering Change Notices. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, quality, and testing) to ensure smooth transition from design to production. Investigate design issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement effective design improvements. Define and oversee environmental and functional testing objectives to validate product performance.

What We’re Looking For

To succeed as a Hydraulic Valve Design Engineer, you’ll bring:

A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience). Proven experience in hydraulic valve design or fluid power systems engineering. Strong CAD skills with the ability to create and modify 3D models and 2D drawings. Knowledge of mechanical design principles, including GD&T, tolerance analysis, and materials selection. An analytical and systematic approach to solving complex engineering problems. Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering and production teams.
