Building Services Consultancy – Southampton Area (Hybrid)

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established building services consultancy based in Fareham. This role is ideal for an engineer with 2–5 years’ experience who is ready to take on greater responsibility, contribute to exciting projects, and progress toward a senior position.

You’ll be involved in delivering sustainable, innovative design solutions for projects across residential, commercial, education, and healthcare sectors—working from concept design through to project completion.

Responsibilities

  • Designing mechanical systems including HVAC, ventilation, hot & cold-water systems, and plantrooms
  • Preparing calculations, reports, and specifications aligned with UK standards and client needs
  • Producing and modifying design drawings using AutoCAD and Revit (desirable)
  • Participating in client, contractor, and internal design meetings
  • Supporting site inspections and technical assessments
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated MEP designs
  • Staying current with UK regulations, industry best practice, and low-carbon technologies

About You

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
  • 2–5 years’ experience in mechanical building services design (consultancy or contractor)
  • Skilled in software such as Hevacomp, IES, AutoCAD, with some Revit knowledge beneficial
  • Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and CIBSE design guidance
  • Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Motivated to achieve Senior Engineer level and progress toward Chartered status
