FairHeat's Junior Engineer (Placement) is a 12-month year-in-industry placement, aligned with the FairHeat Graduate Scheme. The programme offers rotation through different departments to develop technical competencies and the consulting engineering toolkit, with two 5-month departmental rotations and significant client engagement from day one.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Make sure our clients' heat networks are delivered to the highest standards
  • Review designs and specifications as part of the design review team, with input to reports and design calculations
  • Work with clients to provide robust heat network specifications
  • Site inspections for compliance with design and workmanship, including plant room, network and dwelling areas
  • Carry out heat network commissioning testing
  • Communicate analysis and proposed improvements back to the client and design team
  • Optimise the performance of existing heat networks
  • Undertake site audits of existing heat networks
  • Analyse heat network performance data
  • Assess the potential to improve compatibility of existing building systems with new heat networks
  • Identify opportunities to improve performance, with quantified costs and impacts
  • Designing new or retrofit building heat networks
  • Develop heat loss models and sizing calculations for retrofit measures
  • Produce drawings, schedules, specifications, and scope of works
  • Support contractor pricing and site mobilisation
  • Designing new district heating systems and performing heat mapping feasibility
  • Technoeconomic modelling and optimisation of scheme design, off-taker selection, network routing and heat generation options
  • Detailed design of district heating energy centres, heat networks and building connections

Requirements

  • Technical knowledge of thermodynamics and energy
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Good data manipulation, interpretation and visualisation skills
  • Strong aptitude for learning new skills and initiative
  • Good communication skills
