Junior Field Service Engineer – South West
Field Operations – Remote
Salary: circa £33k plus vehicle (and all equipment), fantastic benefits package

The Role
A leading renewable energy operator is seeking a Junior Field Service Engineer to join its South West field operations team. This role offers the opportunity to develop technical expertise while playing a vital part in the maintenance and optimisation of large-scale solar PV systems.
The Junior Field Service Engineer will be responsible for carrying out preventative and corrective maintenance, fault-finding, and system testing on ground-mounted solar PV installations. Working to high standards of safety and performance, this role provides hands-on experience in the renewable energy sector with strong opportunities for career progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, testing, and remedial work on solar PV systems.
- Assist in the installation of new solar PV and wind systems.
- Deliver preventative maintenance in line with annual schedules.
- Conduct corrective maintenance and fault finding within assessed competencies.
- Report site activities daily through CMMS or manual reports.
- Complete accurate electrical testing records suitable for audit.
- Supervise and coordinate third-party contractors on site.
- Carry out risk assessments, follow method statements, and ensure compliance with H&S standards.
- Report near misses and site issues promptly to line management.
- Ensure confidentiality and data security in line with GDPR regulations.
- Support additional tasks as reasonably requested by management.
Required Qualifications
- Level 2 qualification in electrical engineering (City & Guilds, EAL, etc.).
- City & Guilds 17th/18th Edition BS7671 Wiring Regulations (or working towards).
- Substation awareness training.
- Full clean manual UK driving licence.
Essential Experience
- 2+ years in electrical maintenance, fault finding, and repair of LV AC/DC systems.
- Strong computer literacy (Microsoft Office, CMMS, reporting software).
- Ability to read and interpret SLDs and technical schematics.
Key Competencies
- Inverter PPM & fault finding.
- Substation PPM.
- DC string testing and repair.
- UPS maintenance (basic).
- Combiner box PPM & thermal inspections.
- LV component replacement and repair.
- Safe isolation of LV AC/DC and generated supplies.
Preferred Experience
- 2+ years solar PV O&M experience on utility-scale sites.
- Network diagnostics & remote communications.
- Knowledge of central/string inverters (with manufacturer training desirable).
- Understanding of power electronics and generation equipment.
- Familiarity with CCTV systems.
Additional Information
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 08:00–16:30 (Winter) / 08:00–17:30 (Summer). Occasional evenings, weekends, or bank holidays may be required.
- Travel: Field-based role with occasional overnight stays and potential overseas training opportunities.
- Safety: Must comply with fire, health, safety, biosecurity, and confined spaces protocols at all times.
