Junior Infrastructure Engineer

An opportunity has arisen for a Junior Infrastructure Engineer to join the Enterprise Infrastructure Servicesteam. The role will report to and support the Datacentre Services Manager (Europe) in delivering project work and maintaining the operations and integrity of our server infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting and maintaining a reliable IT infrastructure within an ITIL framework while working effectively with colleagues and the wider business, and contributing to the implementation and improvement of new and existing infrastructure systems/services.
  • Proactive response to system alerts raised to the Enterprise Infrastructure team.
  • Maintaining and supporting server and storage infrastructure in Europe and across the globe.
  • Maintaining the integrity of data backup and archive systems.
  • Project work, including upgrading systems and integrating new acquisitions.
  • Proposing technically and commercially sound improvements to the IT infrastructure.
  • Working with global IT teams to develop and commission new servers or migrate legacy systems into central datacentres and Azure hosting platform.
  • Effectively managing infrastructure support requests and incidents within the IT ticketing system.
  • Leading and participating in cross-training to remove knowledge-based single points of failure.
  • Alerting line management to potential risks or issues likely to endanger systems availability, business operations or reputation.
  • Managing and communicating with agencies and suppliers to aid problem resolution.

Technical Skill Requirements

You will be expected to have some knowledge and/or hands-on experience of the following, gained in current/previous IT roles:

  • Windows Server operating systems administration 2016 – 2025 (Ideally Microsoft certified).
  • Virtual Hypervisors (VMware ESXi preferred).
  • Enterprise level backup operations (NetBackup, Veeam, tape library operation).
  • Microsoft Active Directory (users and groups administration).
  • Network/SNMP systems monitoring.
  • TCP/IP and network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, IP addressing).
  • Ethernet and Fibre cabling/patching.

Role Requirements

  • Ensure all incidents, tasks and requests you undertake are logged within the relevant ticketing system and managed within the applicable SLA.
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks, problems and projects concurrently, ensuring tasks are completed within agreed timescales.
  • Liaise with support teams to ensure incidents and requests are resolved within defined SLA and communicate effectively with colleagues and management to ensure issues are escalated appropriately.
  • Respond to issues in a controlled and professional manner.
  • Ensure the IT environment is supported to the highest standards.
  • Undertake any other activities that are reasonably required.
