Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. We aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground. We’ve designed and manufactured modular synthetic fuel plants consisting of a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, vertically integrating with off-grid DC solar and the European gas-grid. We recently deployed the UK's largest synthetic fuel plant and are planning to scale significantly in the coming years.

We’re looking for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to bring our designs to life and help integrate our reactor and electrolyser systems. There is substantial work in condensing, cooling, plumbing, and system integration, requiring curiosity and urgency to advance thermodynamic challenges related to H2 and CO2 formation.

Our single goal is to reduce the levelised cost of methane to the point that drilling stops and companies turn to synthetic routes for carbon management. If you want to make a real-world impact alongside a team you can admire, this is for you.

Responsibilities

• Design and build test rigs to validate key assumptions
• Gas composition and condensing
• Stack thermal monitoring and control (electrolyte, electrodes, gasketing)
• Vapour separation design and validation
• Gasket and cell design
• Laser cutting prototypes
• Test different concepts across materials, morphology
• CFD analysis
• DC solar coupling relative to stack and cell performance
• Execute test plan
• Performance curves
• Longevity testing
• Thermal testing

Core skills / Qualifications

• 1-2+ years professional experience
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in mechanical/aero or related field
• Fundamental thermofluids understanding, heat and mass transfer, chemical kinetics
• Simulation/analytical modelling competency
• Test setup design, running of experiments and data analysis
