JUNIOR SECURITY OPERATIONS ENGINEER

As our new junior security operations engineer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the bank’s information security toolsets. This is a hands-on technical role where your primary objective is the effective administration of solutions such as vulnerability scanning and management, endpoint security, and web and email filtering, whilst acting as the initial triage for security related events and alerts and providing accurate reporting as required by the business.

Salary will be in the region of £30,000-35,000. Based in our Wellingborough head office, you will have the flexibility to work from home for two days per week.

What your day will look like

• Assist in the administration of information security toolsets such as patch management, anti-malware, anti-virus, vulnerability scanner, web and email filter
• Responding to events and alerts generated by the security toolsets / SIEM / SOC, performing initial triage, and ensuring these are logged within the ITSM toolset
• Review emails which have been held to determine the risk they may pose and policies they may breach, where appropriate releasing them whilst maintaining journal audit logs
• Working with the service desk, conduct root cause analysis on incidents and offer input on their resolution
• Work closely with the wider technology understand technical standards / processes / work instructions that adhere to the information security policies
• Become a champion of security operations best practice, forming strong relationships with the technical specialists, service desk, application support and wider information security team. You will help ensure all areas within CISO are aligned and working to improve the security operations posture
• Assist in the evaluation of new proposed solutions to ensure they meet the technical standards from an information security perspective

What we are looking for

Proven experience of working in IT support roles: 5+ years in service desk or similar or 2+ in security operations. This must include:

• Working with ITSM tools to respond to end user requests and incidents & appropriate ticket management
• Working with security tools and products (e.g. Microsoft Defender, SIEM, Microsoft Intune, Mimecast, Forcepoint)
• Reviewing and analysing security events and alerts from toolsets / SIEM / SOC
• Generating reporting to demonstrate tooling efficacy against set standards
• Investigation into alerts determining if preventative or remedial actions are required, or further escalation is needed
• Evaluation of risk and determination of the impact of events
• Knowledge of security frameworks such as ISO 27001/2, NIST, the UK Government’s Cyber Essentials Scheme, CIS framework
• First-rate people, communication, and diplomacy skills with experience of working with internal and external customers/suppliers
