Kernel/Hypervisor Engineer, EC2 Deep Learning Accelerators Job ID: 3010831 | Amazon Web Services Development Center Germany GmbH EC2 is looking for an experienced Kernel & Hypervisor Engineer for one of our virtualization organizations. As part of the team, you will be given the chance to have a significant impact on our systems, our business and most importantly our customers, working in diverse work environment with a flexible schedule. You will be building the lowest layer of the Amazon Web Services software stack, engineering new EC2 instance families and developing the EC2 Nitro Hypervisor for AWS. You will have the opportunity to innovate, make new engineering proposals, and explore new areas. EC2 Accelerated Nitro focuses on hypervisors, virtualization and accelerated computing. We build highly operable quiescent hypervisors that provide near bare metal performance to EC2 instances. We also integrate hardware accelerators (GPUs, FPGAs, etc.) into the EC2 instance families to support advanced workloads, such as machine learning, high performance computing, inference or graphics processing.
Responsibilities
- Take end to end ownership of the software development life cycle: you will build new solutions across the virtualization software stack; developing virtualization components and automating infrastructure flows. This includes design, testing and deployment.
- Drive operational excellence, improving the quality of the hypervisor and our instance platforms.
- Influence and contribute to the technological roadmap of your team.
- Work with other EC2 teams like hardware, software and firmware groups across the globe, driving innovative solutions.
- This position involves on-call responsibility. We work as a team to root-cause the issues and ensure our systems are resilient and fault-tolerant.
- A day in the life: You will work with your manager and other engineers in delivering to the roadmap.
- Focus on high quality delivery and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - Experience (non-internship) in professional software development.
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
- Experience in C/C++.
- 3+ years of experience using the typical Linux command line toolbox.
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
- Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Experience working on the kernel or virtualization space.
- Proficient in at least one CPU architecture such as x86 or ARM.
- Understanding of operating systems internals.
