Laser & Application Engineer - Strand, London, WC2R 2LSAbout usThe position is for a Laser & Application (L&A) engineer to perform metrology of a high repetition rate femtosecond Ytterbium laser amplifier prototype. The L&A project is for 3 months, and it will be held in the attosecond quantum physics laboratory at King’s College London, in the NMES faculty at the Strand Campus (under the supervision of Dr Amelle Zair). We are looking for hiring an excellent L&A laser engineer with a PhD degree in CPA laser technology and application in high harmonic (HHG). Candidates are expected to have a strong expertise in designing, developing optical lines and diagnostics of femtosecond pulses sources. The Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences (NMES) comprises Chemistry, Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, and Physics – all departments highly rated in research activities and a wide-ranging portfolio of education programmes. Celebrating and supporting staff is important to us and we offer a range of provision including flexible working, caring support (including a Parenting and Carers Fund and the Carer’s Career Development Fund), training, and a variety of and networks.
Staff can apply for flexible working to help them balance the demands of their professional and personal commitments and we offer comprehensive leave policies for parental, adoption, surrogacy, dependant and shared leave. The Department is currently undergoing significant growth with substantial investment in new appointments, research infrastructure and laboratory space refurbishment. Further information may be found at: http://www.kcl.ac.uk/physics About the roleThe L&A laser engineer will take the lead for the metrology and application of a high repetition rate femtosecond CPA Ytterbium laser amplifier prototype and embedding it into the HHG chain at King’s College London in the Attoseocnd quantum physics laboratory led by Dr Amelle Zair. The L&A engineer is expected to build diagnostics, test and commission the full metrology of the prototype, developing/ordering optomechanical components and optical elements, developing designs further, as well as covering all necessary documentations and needed simulations. These include, in addition to the metrology, the storage of all data as per our DMP, industrial drawing such as CAD of the laser components, ray tracing and amplification simulations, documentations on alignment and performance of the system developed.He/ She/ They will be fully responsible for the L&A work and reporting to the supervisor and collaborations on the progresses.
