Overview

We have a current requirement for a lead civil design engineer to join our design function based in Glasgow on a permanent basis. The role of the Lead (Civil) Designer is to manage the production of discipline specific engineering design deliverables for a range of multi-disciplinary engineering projects. This includes the design and assessment of various civil structures typically encountered on water and wastewater sites, such as concrete plinths, base-slabs, retaining walls, tanks, channels and flumes designed to resist specified static and dynamic forces. You will also consider construction aspects including ground conditions, buildability and demolition.

Responsibilities

  • Provide management support on projects across the business, in the design and optioneering phases, to develop initial client concept designs or requirements into workable solutions.
  • Liaise with internal and external clients to identify their exact requirements.
  • Attend site-based surveys to understand project needs, meet client representatives, and gather information to inform the optimum design solution.
  • Prepare Civil / Structural design calculations as applicable.
  • Carry out Civil / Structural surveys to identify and advise on potential issues.
  • Work with minimal supervision and manage your own projects from design through to completion.
  • Supervise the production of design drawings by the CAD / BIM team in line with the project programme.
  • Maintain strong communication skills and contribute to a friendly working environment.
  • Deliver technical quality and excellence of project deliverables.
  • Adhere to CDM Regulations 2015, including carrying out Design Risk Assessments.
  • Attend and support site teams during the construction phase with technical queries and problem solving.

Qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years of previous design experience, ideally within a civil engineering or construction environment.
  • Good understanding of structural theory with proven problem solving ability and solid all-round technical design expertise using British and/or Eurocodes.
  • An accredited degree in Civil Engineering or similar would be beneficial for this role.
