Lead Infrastructure Engineer (Kubernetes) at DWP Digital. Pay up to £89,995, plus 28.97% employer pension contributions, hybrid working, flexible hours, and great work life balance. Location: Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield (hybrid model).

You and your role

As a Lead Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, your day will revolve around designing, building and running the cloud platforms that support some of the UK’s most critical public services. You will:

  • design, build and run container platforms, infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native services
  • work hands-on with Kubernetes, managing clusters and automating deployments with Helm, Flux and ArgoCD
  • embed security into everything you build, anticipating and mitigating risks
  • collaborate with other technical teams, helping application developers get the most out of shared cloud infrastructure
  • support live services, investigate and resolve issues, and ensure platforms stay healthy and performant
  • mentor junior engineers and help shape the technical direction of the team

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Strong experience of leading teams in the design, implementation, administration and support of container-related infrastructure solutions and services
  • Significant expertise in container build and runtime environments, Kubernetes administration and related technologies (e.g., Flux, Argo CD, Helm)
  • Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab or equivalent
  • Strong track record of writing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code
  • Expert knowledge of developing and supporting cloud-based applications (Cloud Infrastructure Engineering)

Details, wages and perks

Location: Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield. Hybrid working: some time at home, some in a hub.

Pay: up to £89,995 per year

Pension: employer contributions 28.97% (approx. £20k per year)

Holidays: 26–31 days plus public holidays. Up to 3 extra days off per month on flexi-time.
