Overview
Lead Consultant - Nuclear Safety Engineer at WSP in the UK & Ireland. The successful candidate will join the Systems Engineering, Integration and Assurance team and work closely with our Nuclear Business as we expand in the Nuclear sector.
Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver innovative safety solutions to Clients through the generation of safety services, including planning, safety engineering and risk analysis across the project lifecycle (design, construction, testing, operation, decommissioning).
- Apply pragmatic systems thinking and uphold high quality standards while working with safety critical systems in a regulated environment; provide licensing support and prepare Nuclear Safety Cases to support safety certifications.
- Lead Nuclear safety activities and liaise with system developers, engineers, testers, operators, facility managers, third parties, and certification/regulatory bodies; communicate across all levels.
- Develop and pursue business opportunities in the Nuclear sector while balancing capabilities, resources, time and cost constraints.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of the Nuclear regulatory environment (e.g., NIA, ONR, SAPs/TAGs) and related organisations (IAEA, EA); apply UK nuclear safety and security requirements.
- Collaborate in a wider team to solve complex safety and systems integration problems on major infrastructure programmes (e.g., rail, transportation).
- Mentor Early Career Professionals and develop teams; provide expert advice to clients and colleagues.
What We Are Looking For You To Demonstrate
- A degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Chartered status with a relevant professional body.
- Significant post-degree experience in delivering systems safety and systems integration in the Nuclear Industry.
- Demonstrated expertise in nuclear installation safety and security legislation.
- Significant business development experience in the Nuclear sector.
- Experience in creating and coordinating Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance artefacts (architectures, requirements, verification and validation, compliance statements, integrated schedules, design risk assessments, FMEA, HAZOP, ALARP).
- Experience in Systems Engineering across various stages of a project lifecycle.
- Client-facing experience and stakeholder engagement.
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills; innovative ideas for developing systems engineering services.
- Ability to achieve national security clearance equivalent to BPSS or higher within a reasonable period.
