SP Energy Networks (SPEN) are currently recruiting for a Lead Design Engineer to play a key part in delivering the transmission network that is required to support ambitions Scottish and UK Government NetZero targets.
A Lead Design Engineer is responsible for developing and delivering engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed engineering design for transmission networks projects (132kV, 275kV and 400kV).
This is an exciting opportunity for you to be at the forefront of innovative engineering! You will be paving the way to NetZero using new technologies to develop and deliver engineering solutions for transmission networks for the ever-evolving energy landscape.
What you'll be doing
You will be responsible for the engineering solutions for projects of high value and complexity within the portfolio, this involves providing the necessary basic and detailed engineering specifications and designs for projects, innovation, effective technical support, advice, coaching and input throughout the lifecycle of a portfolio of projects.
You can also expect to:
Assess Overhead Line (OHL) engineering documentation.
Support construction and outage programmes where required in relation to OHL circuits.
Drive resolution of statutory, land or other consents regarding OHL routes.
Provide technical assessment of OHL tender submissions.
Define OHL equipment requirements based on project scope.
Prepare/review of OHL drawings and technical specifications for construction, procurement or other stakeholders.
Provide technical support, control correspondence and drawings to be issued to the Project Delivery and Pre-Contract Teams.
Ensure specifications, OHL system designs, equipment and construction practices are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.
Lead the technical resolution of site/construction OHL related issues.
Provide support for the technical resolution of site/construction OHL issues, analyse common faults and prevent re-occurrence.
Complete tender assessment of OHL works (including suppliers) and support project management on the assessment of bids.
Preparation of project quality documentation following all SP Energy Network and client quality processes and provide and meet deliverables for PQP's.
Promote innovation and new technology.
Contribute to training for new products or similar including the development and delivery of technical, operational and safety packages for such products.
Coach and mentor developing team members within the Department or Project Team.
Liaise across global multi-disciplinary engineering teams to provide end to end integrated solution.
What you'll bring
Working towards/a membership of a professional institution.
Proven significant experience and knowledge of overhead lines and associated equipment engineering.
Good inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to form effective working relationships with other individuals, departments and businesses.
Ability to implement, apply and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice in a design environment.
Ability to represent departments or project teams regarding OHL engineering issues, decisions, standards or industry best practice.
Minimum Requirements:
Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
Proven significant experience in delivering engineering solutions and designs for high value and complex OHL projects.
Ability to communicate with and influence senior managers.
Writing clear and concise reports and documents covering technical subjects.
