Lead Engineer

A hands-on and forward-thinking Lead Engineer is required to take responsibility for engineering operations across modern packaging and manufacturing lines within a growing, highly regulated business. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong technical background who also thrives in leadership, planning, and continuous improvement.The role involves leading and developing a small but growing engineering team, overseeing daily maintenance, troubleshooting, and long-term reliability of equipment and systems across both Manufacturing and Packaging departments.Key Responsibilities for the lead engineerProvide hands-on engineering support across all machinery, equipment, and plant.Lead, supervise, and develop a team of Engineers and Technicians.Plan and coordinate daily tasks, shift schedules, and preventative maintenanceTroubleshoot and perform reactive maintenance to reduce downtime.Deliver continuous improvement projects using lean and agile manufacturing methods.Liaise with external suppliers and manage service contracts and equipment upgrades.Maintain accurate equipment logs, maintenance records, and compliance documentation.Ensure all activities comply with GMP, Health & Safety, and regulatory standards.Represent the Engineering team in cross-functional meetings and planning.Support CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions) processes.Manage on-site inventory and sourcing of spare parts and materials.What we are looking for in a lead engineerExperience in a hands-on engineering role within a regulated manufacturing environment (pharmaceuticals, FMCG, food, or similar).Strong leadership and team development capabilities.Good knowledge of GMP, Health & Safety, and quality compliance.Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Experience with packaging and production equipment is desirable.Comfortable leading change and supporting business growth through engineering best practices.What's on Offer for lead engineerCompetitive salary up to£55,000 per annumMonday to Friday, 8am-4pmRole based in a modern, purpose-built facility with advanced equipmentA leadership position with a mix of strategic oversight and hands-on responsibilityThe opportunity to help shape a growing engineering function in a successful, expanding companyIf you are interested in this role and feel that you have the right skills, then please click apply at the bottom of this advert.As a registered candidate with Pioneer Selection Ltd, you automatically become eligible for our referral scheme.You will receive £250 for every candidate we place in permanent employment who has been recommended by you.
