Job Description Summary

As a Lead HMI Engineer, you will lead the requirement, design, implementation, development and testing SCADA/ HMI for HVDC Control & Protection system. You will work closely across various engineering disciplines within HVDC business, developing organizational talent and Engineering process management, providing technical guidance, mentoring, driving consistent design practices, and enabling common global processes for projects implementation. The role supports NPI, project delivery and Tender objectives. This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence throughout the week in Stafford or Noida.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading overall requirement, design, implementation, and testing of SCADA / HMI for HVDC Control & Protection system.
  • Responsible for Functional specification, HMI design requirement, HMI symbol and view specification.
  • Independently able to handle customer in face-to-face meetings & close all technical queries (TQs).
  • Extensive experience and ability to create PLC logic (IEC61131-3).
  • Extensive experience in HMI cyber security implementation, virtualization and Windows operating system.
  • Extensive experience with HMI / SCADA technologies, implementation, testing and installation.
  • Extensive experience with industrial communication protocols for data exchange (IEC61850, IEC60870, DNP3, Modbus, and other relevant standards).
  • Configuration of IEC61850 IEDs via vendor-specific tools and system configuration tools for complete system integration.
  • Generation of Substation Configuration Description Language (SCL) files for system integration.
  • Knowledge of interlocking principles used in substation automation systems and their implementation on IEC61850 IEDs.
  • Design, configuration and testing to deliver HVDC Control System hardware on time and within budget.
  • Testing and debugging of complex IEC61850 communication systems using tools such as IEDScout, Wireshark, etc.
  • Coordinate and interface the HVDC Control System with Balance of Plant equipment and SCADA systems.
  • Define the main IO lists of the control system and analyze signal interfaces for compatibility.
  • Collaborate with NPI teams on RTU, Bay Controllers (BCU) and Merging Units for signal acquisition in digital substation environments.
  • Knowledge of LAN networks/communication architectures and configuration of industrial Ethernet switches/routers and satellite clocks.
  • Oversee testing and FAT witnessing of the Control System.
  • Prepare and present technical information for Substation Control Systems to internal and external customers.
  • Execute and provide guidance for analysis/evaluation of assigned projects meeting standards, practices and procedures and product/program requirements.
  • Coach and develop department talent and contribute to a collaborative engineering culture.
  • Use technical experience to analyze data and support recommendations; assist site activities related to installation and commissioning of the control system.
  • Ensure proper documentation of technical data generated for assigned projects in line with engineering policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Electronics/Electrical engineering or related field.
  • Excellent background in HMI software configuration and implementation, preferably Zenon COPA-DATA or Panorama-CODRA.
  • Extensive experience in HMI development in electrical facilities (DC or AC).
  • Strong knowledge of configuring Substation Bay Controllers / Merging Units / IEC61850 IEDs.
  • Knowledge of security/hardening and cybersecurity best practices for networks.
  • Excellent knowledge of commonly used Layer2&3 protocols such as IPv4, OSPF, LACP, DMZ, VPN, DMS/ADMS/DNP, IEC, Modbus.
  • Knowledge in Control Panel design (substation/power plant environments).
  • Knowledge in Distributed Control Systems / Substation Automation.
  • Knowledge of industrial networks such as Profibus and Ethernet-based protocols.
  • Control & Protection Relay logics design techniques and experience in developing electrical designs for industrial control systems.
