Lead Java Engineer – Lloyds Banking Group

Location: Edinburgh, Bristol, Manchester, Leeds & Halifax | Hours: Full-time 35 hours per week | Hybrid working (two days per week in office or 40% time in office)

End Date: Saturday 27 September 2025

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Inspire and guide engineering teams, empowering them to design, build, test, and deploy modular, cloud-native applications and APIs.
  • Champion cross-functional collaboration with Product Owners, Architects, Quality Engineers, and stakeholders to align technical delivery with strategic goals.
  • Drive architectural decisions and technical governance for scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
  • Integrate with internal systems and third-party APIs to deliver smooth user experiences.
  • Shape engineering strategy and innovation, influencing platform practices and ways of working.
  • Mentor and develop talent, fostering an inclusive environment where engineers can grow and thrive.

What You’ll Need

  • Proven ability to lead and grow engineering teams, shape technical strategy, and influence cross-functional collaboration.
  • Backend development: Java with experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs; familiarity with Spring Boot and Node.js is beneficial.
  • DevOps & Cloud: experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Harness); Docker and Kubernetes; cloud platforms (GCP preferred, AWS or Azure welcome).
  • Quality testing & automation: experience with automated testing tools (Jest, Cypress, Pact); commitment to reliable, maintainable, well-tested code.
