Responsibilities

  • Lead Manufacturing Engineer support for the Propellant Processing manufacturing team located in Camden, AR; perform a variety of duties in the mechanical and chemistry areas of propellant analysis and formulation.
  • Construct, troubleshoot, adjust, test, diagnose, and maintain propellant and explosive formulations, mix sheets and technical parameters for the manufacture of energetics systems.
  • Work from specifications, operating manuals, engineering drawings and written material test plans and technical data; operate related test instrumentation and computer systems; conduct routine and complex testing and report data in prescribed format.
  • Assess, define and engineer handling, processing, and mixing of chemicals in a manufacturing setting.
  • Understand and work with results from lab instrumentation such as FTIR, Instrons, DSC, Microtrac, titrators, and HPLC.
  • Determine plans for sampling and testing raw materials, propellants, and explosives.
  • Evaluate and interpret raw test data; perform mathematical calculations.
  • Understand laboratory and chemical operations in manufacturing that include cleaning, assembling and dismantling manufacturing hardware, equipment, and apparatus.
  • Perform manufacturing support work such as instrument troubleshooting, parameter setting, inspections, and material handling.
  • Evaluate and interpret test reports, saved test data, and report test data; review and submit manufacturing documentation for changes including test and calibration procedures.
  • Demonstrate practical or theoretical knowledge of chemical and explosive operations in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior manufacturing engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior manufacturing engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior manufacturing engineering experience.

Additional Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of testing explosives and energetic materials is a plus.
  • Knowledge of chemical or propellant processing.
  • Communicates with contacts within and outside of own department.
  • May occasionally communicate with parties external to the organization (e.g., customers, vendors).
  • Explains and interprets processes and procedures to others within and outside the job area.
  • May work to justify and gain cooperation regarding processes, practices and procedures.
