Lead Power and Propulsion Engineer – Marine Sector
Navantia UK – Bristol (Hybrid)
Command the future of marine propulsion.
At Navantia UK, we design and deliver the power behind the world’s most advanced naval ships. We’re looking for a visionary Lead Power and Propulsion Engineer to take charge of system design, integration, and optimisation — from the first concept sketch to ships at sea. In this pivotal leadership role, you will set the technical direction, champion innovation, and ensure our propulsion solutions lead the way in performance, safety, and sustainability for the modern naval fleet.
Why This Role Matters
This isn’t just another engineering job — it’s your opportunity to shape the propulsion systems that drive next-generation warships, integrate ground-breaking energy technologies, and contribute directly to the UK’s maritime capability. You’ll work at the intersection of engineering excellence, strategic defence, and environmental responsibility.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the technical vision for power and propulsion systems, including machinery selection, electrical architecture, and energy management strategies.
- Drive innovation by integrating alternative propulsion technologies (full electric, hybrid, future fuels) and emission-reduction solutions.
- Ensure compliance with naval/maritime regulations, safety protocols, and performance standards.
- Develop operational modes, control and monitoring specifications, and system optimisation strategies.
- Collaborate with design, production, and operational teams to achieve seamless integration into ship designs.
- Provide specialist guidance during both construction and in-service phases.
What You Bring
- A degree in Marine, Mechanical, or related engineering discipline (Master’s welcomed).
- Expertise in propulsion technologies, power generation/distribution, and energy management systems.
- Knowledge of emission-reduction solutions and future fuel integration, including associated safety considerations.
- Familiarity with classification society rules and naval/maritime design codes.
- Proficiency with engineering tools such as 2D/3D CAD and analysis software.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and project delivery skills.
What We Offer
- The chance to lead high-profile naval projects that define the future of maritime defence.
- A collaborative environment where your expertise and ideas are valued.
- Hybrid working arrangements for a balanced work-life approach.
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Be the driving force behind tomorrow’s naval capability.
Apply today and lead the propulsion revolution.
