OverviewNRL are working with a leading client whose projects include major private infrastructure network developments, microgrid solutions, gas/hydrogen based generation and grid support through battery storage schemes. They are a commercial organisation who generate leads and prospects from multiple clients including DNOs for work either owned and operated by a DNO or private commercial, NHS, airports and large manufacturing customers operating in a commercial environment.This opportunity is for a recently qualified or experienced Design Engineer to develop customer projects into detailed design packs to be delivered in accordance with current conditions, policies and standards. To enable us to fully deliver our projects we are looking for an innovative Design Engineer to work client side on HV projects from initial concept and feasibility through to procurement specification, construction and commissioning. Someone to act as the Lead Designer for Infrastructure & Energy projects for Electricity North West Construction & Maintenance Ltd.’s customer networks up to and including 132kV. To manage, and oversee, all aspects of design (from outline to detail) during the project life including, but not limited to, design, planning, approval, construction, commissioning, and final handover.We are looking for a Customer Side HV/MV Project Electrical Design Engineer for wide and challenging projects in the North of England, based in Middlesbrough. The ideal candidate will have experience in plant specification, P&C, AISs/GISs and 33/66/132kV substation layout. We can offer an immediate start to see projects through from concept to completion.ResponsibilitiesLead Designer for Infrastructure & Energy projects for customer networks up to 132kV, managing design from outline to detail across the project lifecycle (design, planning, approval, construction, commissioning and handover).Collaborate with Bid and Design teams to ensure adherence to design standards and data integrity.Develop customer project designs into detailed design packs in line with current conditions, policies and standards.Support concept and feasibility studies and translate requirements into procurement specifications and construction documentation.QualificationsHold an HNC or Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (or equivalent), preferably with a bias towards Power Engineering.Demonstrate a good understanding of Low Voltage & High Voltage electrical principles and theory.Understand distribution network design including volt drop calculations, earth loop impedance calculations and protection (knowledge would be advantageous).Have knowledge of electrical engineering design software and practices (e.g. ETAP, Dig Silent, SafeGrid & Trimble Power).Desirable focus areasDesign & Construction of High Voltage Private Networks.Grid Support Generation technologies including Battery Energy Storage Systems, Gas Peaking & Grid Scale Solar Projects.Implementing Fuel Cell technologies into Private Distribution networks.Large Private Wire Distribution network development and management.High Voltage Protection & control together with automation of Network assets.Demonstrate an understanding of Construction Design Management regulations relating to Electrical infrastructure projects.
