The Role:
The company is seeking a Lead Structural Engineer to take full technical ownership of the structural design process across their portfolio of advanced composite vessels. This pivotal role will see you shaping the next generation of lightweight, high-performance maritime platforms, ensuring structural integrity, optimised weight, manufacturability, and cost-efficiency from concept through to production.
You will act as the primary technical point of contact for all structural aspects, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and the shipyard to deliver practical, high-quality solutions. This is a high-impact role for a detail-oriented engineer who thrives on solving complex technical challenges in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Take technical ownership of the structural design process across the company’s composite vessel portfolio.
Serve as the primary point of contact for structural engineering queries and decisions.
Optimise vessel designs for weight, manufacturability, and cost.
Champion design-for-manufacture principles, ensuring efficient, robust build processes.
Liaise with regulatory bodies and shipyard personnel on design updates and as-fits.
Apply finite element analysis and composite optimisation in line with class rules.
Predict early-stage concept weights using hand calculations and class rules.Essential Skills & Experience:
Proven experience in structural design of composite vessels up to 24m load line length.
Strong understanding of regulatory and class requirements for composite structures.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and optimisation of composites against class rules.
Experience liaising with shipyard teams for design changes and updates.
Weight prediction and structural calculations for early-stage concepts.Desirable Skills:
3D CAD modelling in Siemens NX and structural analysis using NX Simcenter.
Knowledge of composite manufacturing processes, resin systems, and reinforcement selection.
Project management experience, configuration control, and mentoring junior engineers.Key Behaviours:

Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across teams.
Proactive problem-solving and task ownership.
Professionalism in client interactions and adherence to confidentiality.
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
Maintain a safe working environment and follow company H&S policies.
Ensure equipment and PPE are safe, compliant, and correctly used.
