Lead Visualisation Engineer role at Women in Data

This role requires on-site presence at Asda House in Leeds three days per week.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical mentorship and direction to visualisation engineers, helping to elevate team capability and maintain engineering standards, while supporting career growth.
- Design, develop, and maintain robust Power BI solutions that address key business needs via scalable semantic models optimised for performance, usability, and governance; leverage Power Platform capabilities to automate solutions.
- Lead best practices in visualisation engineering and Power BI development, including DAX optimisation, query folding, and visual design standards.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers, Product Managers and Data Analysts to ensure business requirements are translated into scalable, performant data reporting solutions, aligned with data governance, security, and quality standards.
- Balance hands‑on engineering responsibilities with technical leadership to drive high‑quality delivery.
- Monitor and optimise performance of Power BI reports and datasets, identifying bottlenecks and implementing proactive solutions.
- Act as a technical SME within the visualisation domain, supporting community forums and platform adoption across the business.
- Contribute to and help shape the overall data visualisation and reporting strategy at Asda, highlighting opportunities to streamline with a focus on innovation, efficiency, and usability.
About You (Experience & Qualifications)
- Expert‑level Power BI knowledge, with proven experience developing and implementing organisation‑wide data visualisation strategies. Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric concepts is advantageous.
- Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms, particularly Databricks and Microsoft Azure, to support scalable, enterprise‑grade analytics solutions.
- Strong data modelling expertise within Power BI, capable of building robust semantic models and optimising for performance and clarity.
- Experience with supporting tools such as DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Advanced DAX skills, with knowledge of query folding, summarised tables, and techniques for enhancing model efficiency.
- Solid understanding of data ingestion pipelines and architectural design, contributing to reliable and scalable analytics frameworks.
- Skilled in SQL, with a focus on query optimisation and seamless integration into Power BI environments.
- Committed to best practices, aligning solutions with enterprise architecture, data governance policies, and security standards.
- Passionate advocate for data platforms, actively promoting community engagement and adoption across the organisation.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non‑technical business stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring junior engineers.
- Proactive, resilient, and possessing strong leadership qualities; a collaborative team player.
