The Opportunity

We have a permanent Lightning/Electrical Engineer role to join our Consulting Energy, Lighting & Technology Practice in Scotland. We have shared office space in Glasgow and Edinburgh, so we welcome applications from across these regions.

Amey Consulting is the design partner to support Transport Scotland in delivering the South West and North East Trunk Road Network Management Contracts and Intelligent Transport Infrastructure. These long-term contracts involve designing some of the largest civil engineering and related infrastructure projects in Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn. We provide opportunities for technical, engineering and professional design staff at all career stages to be involved in exciting and challenging projects across Scotland, the UK and overseas.

The role

As a Lightning/Electrical Engineer at Amey Consulting, you’ll see your work from early design to final delivery. Each project will differ, and you’ll be supported to grow your career through further qualifications and skill development.

You will be responsible for or assist with:

  • Developing effective concept design solutions that are consistent with the project brief
  • Undertaking a wide range of design work on all aspects of the function's design and maintenance
  • Implementing effective, value-for-money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements
  • Progressing projects through preliminary and detailed design with emphasis on client requirements; promoting innovation and best practice where practicable
  • Driving health and safety practices within your team
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM regulations
  • Supervising, mentoring and developing team members
  • Assisting with contract preparation alongside project planning and programming
  • Project administration reporting to the Project Manager, including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets, inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating and fees
  • Supporting bids and delivery of services on other contracts
  • Inspection work, feasibility studies, and cost estimating for works and fees
  • Managing project-related correspondence
  • Checking compliance with the integrated management system and assisting in its development
  • Preparing technical reports (e.g., Feasibility/Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical reports)
  • Developing engineering solutions and presenting engineering options
  • Liaising with the client and community partners to ensure buildability and maintainability
  • Maintaining personal development to support team growth and progression with professional institutions

What you will bring to us

  • Progress towards formal professional training with an appropriate professional body
  • Experience and expertise in the relevant technical field, likely in a Graduate Engineer role or equivalent
  • Ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions compliant with relevant standards and client requirements, under supervision
  • Experience in following procedures related to health, safety and welfare
  • Ability to comply with technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment
