OverviewEngineer role for Relay, a newly launched but fast-growing capture and media management service, backed by The Halo Group. We are looking for an Engineer who specializes in supporting unscripted productions on location.Job Summary / Key Focus of the RoleRelay is a newly launched but fast-growing capture and media management service within the post-production sector, backed by The Halo Group. We specialise in supporting unscripted productions on location—delivering technical solutions that bridge seamlessly into post, no matter where the post is handled.This role sits at the intersection of production and post-production and requires a strong understanding of HD and UHD file-based workflows, media standards, and delivery requirements.As a Location Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing, building, and supporting reliable location systems.You’ll be based at our HQ in Soho, but also client-facing and often working on location, so we’re looking for someone confident, flexible, and driven—someone who is excited by emerging technologies and proactive about testing and implementing innovative solutions that keep Relay ahead of the curve.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide engineering support for all Relay location capture systems—both in the UK and abroad—ensuring a consistently high level of service deliveryManage the health and upkeep of all Relay’s kit at the primary base in Soho. Identify when upgrades are required. You will work closely with a resource co-ordinator to ensure all kit is thoroughly checked out before each job goes out and checked in once returnedCollaborate with the Head of Location to research, test, and roll out new technologies, always aiming to stay ahead of the curve in capture and post-production workflowsAssist in the design, build, documentation, and testing of custom record systems tailored to specific production needsAct as a key technical liaison for clients and crew while on location, handling technical escalations and ensuring smooth day-to-day operationsHelp drive innovation within Relay by trialling new tools, workflows, and platforms—working with industry partners to pilot and refine themMaintain a safe working environment by observing risk assessments and health and safety protocols on locationSupport ongoing education of internal teams and clients on emerging technologyUpdate the Head of Location regularly on technical performance & project statusPerson SpecificationDegree or HND in a relevant field is preferred but not essential with demonstrable experienceA deep understanding of HD & UHD Post-Production workflows. You have a passion for media technology and a hunger to experiment with emerging techEager for software development and other innovative R&D projectsFlexible and willing to travel for extended periods as part of location-based productionsStrong client-facing experience with excellent communication and relationship-building skillsComfortable working independently or as part of a wider crew under tight deadlines and in demanding environmentsCommercially aware, understanding the balance between creative ambition and practical deliveryEnthusiastic, forward-thinking, and solutions-focused.Technical Skills & Software (desired but not all essential)Experience with location capture tech such as mRes, cinergy & EVSFamiliarity with industry-standard post tools like Avid Media Composer, Avid Nexis, Synology, QNAP, DaVinci Resolve, Offshoot and Adobe Creative CloudComfortable with IT tools like Microsoft Office and planning software such as ScheduAll.This is an exciting opportunity to be part of something new and growing—where your voice, curiosity, and creativity can help shape the future of how productions are delivered from the ground up.Please click the ‘apply’ button to send your CV and a cover letter via grapevinejobs. #J-18808-Ljbffr
