Job Title: Logistics Engineer
Salary: £38,000 - £55,000 depending on experience
Location: Desford, Leicestershire
Contract: Full time & permanent
What You Will Do
As a Logistics Engineer, you are accountable for, but not limited to:
- Apply process improvement tools and lean methodologies to implement efficient and competitive logistics solutions, enhancing material flow and reducing waste across the facility.
- Coordinate with operations teams to define critical parameters and develop plans for process control, layout design, and workflow improvements.
- Support part presentation for assembly through kitting or sequencing strategies, including resource planning and equipment procurement for material handling solutions.
- Maintain and implement internal logistics process engineering standards, tools, and best practices across current and new operations.
- Evaluate logistics processes and workflows, conduct root cause analysis using Six Sigma tools, and collaborate cross-functionally to resolve quality issues.
- Ensure adherence to the company’s Health and Safety policies and safe working practices, while upholding Caterpillar’s Values in Action: Integrity, Commitment, Excellence, Teamwork, and Sustainability.

What You Can Demonstrate
- Planning (Tactical & Strategic): Support short-term operational planning and contribute to shaping tactical (1–2 years) and strategic (3–5 years) initiatives. This role involves tracking progress, adjusting plans as needed, and helping deliver on key business priorities.
- Collaboration: Engage with teams across functions and levels to drive shared goals. You’ll help coordinate collaborative efforts, foster inclusive working relationships, and play a part in solving business challenges.
- Decision-Making & Critical Thinking: Bring a structured approach to analysing complex issues and identifying priorities. You’ll assist in evaluating risks and options to support sound, informed decisions that make a difference.
- Manufacturing Problem Management: Apply proven methodologies to resolve manufacturing problems effectively. Expect to log and track issues, implement practical solutions, and contribute to ongoing process improvements.
What You May Have: We’re especially interested in candidates who bring skills with:
- SAP – For managing logistics, inventory, and supply chain operations
- AutoCAD – Useful for layout planning and facility design
- CREO – For 3D modeling and engineering design
- Lean Six Sigma – Driving continuous improvement and operational efficiency
- APM or PRINCE2 – Project management methodologies to support cross-functional initiatives
