We’re looking for a skilled and motivated AI/ML Engineer to join our Research & Development team working at the cutting edge of machine learning, scientific imaging, and life sciences automation. This is an exciting opportunity to take technical ownership of innovative AI features powering next-generation laboratory instruments used in biotechnology and cell research.


As part of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll design, develop, and deploy AI models into real-world systems—contributing to technology that accelerates the development of life-changing therapies.


The client can consider candidates with varying experience with a minimum of three years and STEM academic background confirmed.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and contribute to the design, implementation, and delivery of applied AI/ML solutions from research through to production
  • Develop computer vision models to solve real-world scientific challenges, particularly in biological imaging
  • Translate complex AI ideas into structured project plans and clear, actionable work items
  • Own and manage ML codebases (Python-based) with best practices around DevOps, version control, and testing
  • Work cross-functionally with systems engineers, software developers, and research scientists
  • Maintain high standards of documentation and collaborate on patent filings where innovation is involved
  • Stay current with state-of-the-art AI methods and apply them where appropriate to advance our product capabilities

Your Background


Essential:

  • Solid software engineering background with Python and deep learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Keras)
  • Experience delivering computer vision solutions, ideally involving scientific or microscopy images
  • Strong grasp of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and modern AI techniques
  • Familiarity with Git-based workflows and modern DevOps practices
  • Clear communicator with strong technical documentation skills


Nice to Have:

  • Exposure to biotech, life sciences, or cellular imaging domains
  • Experience with ONNX, or deployment of models to production environments
  • A passion for applying AI to biology or scientific data
  • Knowledge of cell line development or biological assay workflows

Qualifications

  • MSc or higher in Computer Science, AI/ML, Physics, Computational Biology, or related field
  • OR equivalent industry experience building and deploying ML models in scientific or technical domains


Working Arrangements

  • Hybrid role with minimum
  • During your probation up to 5 days on-site may be required for onboarding and collaboration
  • Office located in the Bournemouth area
