Maintenance Engineer
White Horse Plastics is a UK based injection moulding company specialising in the manufacture and assembly of components for the medical, consumer and engineering sectors. Our services cover all aspects of production, assembly & packaging.
Our legacy lies in the automotive market, where we have been a trusted supplier for over 40 years. More recently, we have expanded into the medical sector and since attaining ISO 13485, have been producing millions of medical components a year at our premises in South Oxfordshire. We are also a biopolymer moulding specialist and have been working with a project partner to scale up the production of innovative materials for the sustainable packaging sector. With over 50 years’ experience (founded in 1973) White Horse Plastics has the single-minded objective of providing total solutions for their clients.
- Due to the imminent (October) retirement of our current Maintenance Engineer we are now looking for a skilled and proactive Maintenance Engineer to carry out the mechanical and electrical maintenance of the company’s plant equipment. We currently have 28 Injection moulding machines from 22 to 270 tonne, ranging in age from 20 years old to brand new with all the associated ancillary equipment and automation you would expect. Your role will be key to ensuring consistent production and equipment reliability.
- Ideally this would suit an engineer already working in the Injection Moulding sector, but this is not essential, as industry specific training can be provided.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair electrical/mechanical faults that occur on plant and/or equipment.
- Further develop/improve the preventative maintenance programme for all plant and/or equipment (hydraulics, robots, ancillary machines automatic assembly).
- Validation of new plant equipment, automation and upgrades, arranging and liaising with outside contractors if and as required.
- Process/equipment troubleshooting and failure analysis.
- Ensure all items of plant and/or equipment is in good safe working order.
- Maintain and update PAT testing and register.
- Manage new equipment installation, arranging and liaising with outside contractors if and as required.
- Strive to improve the efficiency and safety of plant and equipment.
- Maintain a high standard of record keeping for all repairs and servicing of plant and/or equipment as required for audit, traceability and warranty purposes, in accordance with the Quality Management System.
Requirements:
- Apprentice trained or formally qualified in mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
- A good working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and electronic/electrical automation controls. Some knowledge in PLC programming would be a further advantage.
- Qualified electrician with 17th/18th Edition regulations or equivalent.
- Logic fault-finding & problem-solving skills
- Experience of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM).
- General troubleshooting problems on a variety of plant and equipment.

What we offer:
· You would be joining and working alongside a highly skilled and motivated team, with a fully equipped and staffed machine shop that will support you in your role.
· Typically, a 4 day/40 hour working week, which would generally be Monday – Thursday, but mutual flexibility on working hours is offered to suit the successful applicant’s personal circumstances and cover where additional hours or occasional Fridays are required to meet operational needs.
· 20 days (5 working weeks) paid holiday allowance, plus all statutory holidays – 28 days total.
· Starting salary £37,000+ dependent on experience.
