Overview

Manufacturing Engineer – Automation role at Rolls-Royce. This position is based at the Composite Technology Facility (CTF) in Bristol on the Filton site with occasional visits to the offsite facility. The role supports the development of hardware for the Mk2 Engine Architecture and a range of other components, as part of the UltraFan Integrated Project Team. The successful candidate will manage packages of work within the CTF and work with Design Engineers, Technical specialists, Operations and Quality.

Working Pattern: Standard 37hr/wk. Location: Bristol/Hybrid (4 days on site + 1 Remote).

This role is advertised to form a pipeline of candidates for current and future positions within the Composite Technology Facility; applicants should not expect immediate feedback. Rolls-Royce is developing manufacturing methods, processes and materials for composite fan blades and fan containment casings, with growth across multiple products including the UltraFan Engine demonstrator programme.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Ensure the correct and efficient function of all modules, machines and robots within the composite preforming production cell. Support housekeeping, troubleshooting, maintenance and upgrade activities.
  • Have a general understanding of the basic functions of all production-cell modules to support Operators, Manufacturing Engineers and Process Owners with production operations and troubleshooting.
  • Liaise with the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of the production cell to support troubleshooting, maintenance and upgrades. Schedule and support on-site OEM visits as required.
  • Ensure preforming process techniques meet customer requirements for Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and Lead time.
  • Develop the Technical Package (Equipment Specification, TI’s, PFMEAs, Tooling, Equipment and HSE documentation) to define the manufacturing process and control it effectively.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Engineering or relevant discipline degree, HND or HNC with Manufacturing Engineering and Automation experience.
  • Knowledge of automated prepreg composite processes and techniques, including automated fibre placement. Experience with CNC machines or robotic arms and control systems in a fully automated production line is beneficial.
  • Understanding of Siemens Sinumerik control systems in a production environment.
  • Understanding of the manufacturing engineering toolset to improve processes and reduce defects.
  • Experience working to aerospace management systems and following process controls.
