What you will be doing
As a Materials Data Engineer you will be responsible for the approval, validation and control of test & design data for a variety of materials using our materials database. There will also be the opportunity to be involved in improvement activities as part of the on-going Materials Digital Transformation activity.
There are excellent opportunities to develop knowledge and experience through technical support to Materials Engineers and the wider business in both Civil & Defence Aerospace; from the development of new materials through to in service support.
The role offers unique exposure to database management and material selection capabilities, with a key part of the role being to identify and control risks and instigate improvements.

Responsibilities
- To resolve problems through evaluative judgments. Analyses information from multiple sources, interprets results and identifies effective solutions by applying their own technical knowledge, expertise and engineering judgement.
- To manage the uploading of mechanical test results, data analyses, and new design allowable to our materials database.
- To mange to the distribution of materials data to other Rolls-Royce sites and 3rd parties.
- To be a point of contact within Materials Engineering and to share subject matter knowledge across the function. This may include providing training to relevant groups.
- To develop applications which can interact with the SQL database for import/export of data in specific ways by using VBA, C#, (.)NET, XML, Python, etc.
- To understand company business objectives and ensure that the work they do supports this; To act in accordance with both the company values and those associated with being a professional engineer.
- To actively promote, encourage and support the identification and implementation of continuous improvement both within and outside their immediate sphere and prompt action across the wider team.
Who we're looking for:

- Bachelor's degree, Master's or PhD in Engineering or equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience.
- Technical experience relevant to database creation, maintenance and management.
- An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking to a range of technical problems.
- Knowledge and experience of data analysis & statistical methods (Probability, Distributions, Students 't', Chi Sq, Confidence Intervals, Likelihood, Polynomial Regression...etc)
- Knowledge and experience of coding using the following: Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), C# (C-Sharp) Programming, Microsoft (.)NET Framework, Spreadsheet Gear, Microsoft SQL, XML, Python.
- Membership in a relevant professional body appropriate to the region. In the UK - attained / working towards Chartered status is preferred.
