Mechanical Design Engineer - ContractorTHIS ROLE SITS INSIDE IR35Mechanical Design Engineer – ContractReports to Mechanical Design & Analysis Functional ManagerKey Purpose of JobSSTL are looking for motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to support current and future flight spacecraft projects. You will support the design of new structures and the integration of sub-systems from concepts through to final designs. The role will include mechanical design, systems integration and build support activities.You work closely with project managers, system engineers, manufacturing and senior/ principal analysts.Key TasksDesign of components/ systems to fulfil customer requirements using 3D modelling tools and techniquesCompletion of manufacturing drawings to enable component procurement and support of manufacturing activities and inspectionsDocumenting and implementing design changes using Engineering Change NoticesWriting detailed assembly procedures and technical build informationUndertake integration of the mechanical components/assemblies in clean room facilitiesCreating and maintaining build logsCreating BoM’s and managing/inputting into MRP systemsSupport design of electronics enclosures, generate PCB board outlines and liaise with the electrical design team to ensure compatibility with printed circuit assembliesOther Requirements: Flexibility and willingness to support other teams/ disciplines within the department in areas such as Propulsion, Mechanisms and Optical InstrumentsFlexibility to support at more than one site on occasionPERSON SPECIFICATION (essential requirements)Nationality Eligible to live and work in the UK and gain security clearance up to SC levelQualifications A good degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalentExperience Proven and relevant experience, preferably in the space industry although this is not essential. Practical experience in support of mechanical build and testing activities an advantageKnowledge & SkillsCompetent use of SolidWorks CAD package is essential and familiarity with MRP systems is an advantageSpecifying/ identifying appropriate materials, surface treatments and finishes for mechanical component design in aerospace applicationsElectrical harness design and integration experienceGood attention to detailUnderstanding of Spacecraft Systems an advantageUnderstanding of production and manufacturing methodsCompetent use of Microsoft Office suite including OutlookUnderstanding of the challenging design environment of spaceGood communication skills and the ability to generate technical documentationGood practical skills with assembly and integration experienceProven ability to deliver solutions under pressure and to tight timescalesExperience drawing checking and releaseDepartment: Mechanical & PropulsionRole: Mechanical Design EngineerLocations: GuildfordEmployment type: ContractJob Reference: 350Already working at Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd.?
