Mechanical Design Engineer\n\nWe’re seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join a dynamic and forward-thinking engineering business. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and improving products across a diverse portfolio. You’ll work on innovative projects, drive continuous improvement, and support the transition of designs from concept through to production.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Design and develop mechanical products in line with technical specifications and performance requirements\n\n * Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance existing designs, processes, and materials\n\n * Convert legacy 2D design data into 3D models using modern CAD software\n\n * Produce accurate component and assembly drawings suitable for manufacture\n\n * Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BoMs) to support product release into production\n\n * Identify opportunities for value engineering within active and future projects\n\n * Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to define and agree technical specifications\n\n * Work proactively with internal teams across multiple sites, including international colleagues\n\n * Contribute to the development and testing of prototypes to evaluate performance and functionality\n\n * Support improvements in manufacturing methods and product quality\n\n * Use advanced Excel tools to analyse data and support design decisions\n\nCandidate ProfileQualifications\n\n * HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline\n\nExperience\n\nEssential:\n\n * Proven background in metal product design or similar manufacturing environments\n\n * Strong design fundamentals with a rigorous approach to detail\n\n * Experience applying Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles\n\n * Strong CAD skills with experience in 3D modelling and technical drawing\n\n * Confident user of Microsoft Excel with experience using formulas and automations\n\nDesirable:\n\n * Previous experience in consumer or industrial product design\n\n * Exposure to CAM software or manufacturing integration tools\n\n * Knowledge of electrical or electronic design principles\n\n * Familiarity with injection moulding and/or additive manufacturing (3D printing)\n\nCore Competencies\n\n * Delivering results – Sets and achieves clear, challenging goals\n\n * Team collaboration – Shares knowledge openly and seeks input from colleagues\n\n * Decision making – Confident in making informed decisions within scope\n\n * Critical thinking – Balances design intent with cost, manufacturability, and function\n\nPersonal Attributes\n\nProfessional, enthusiastic, and engaged\n\nCreative problem-solver with strong technical insight\n\nExcellent communication skills, both written and verbal\n\nSelf-motivated and results-drivenExceptional attention to detail and time management\n\nFlexible, adaptable, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
