Mechanical Design Engineer\n\nSheffield Office-Based (with Occasional Site Visits)\n\nWe are looking for an initiative-taking and skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our clients Design team. This is a fully office-based role, with opportunities to visit project sites and collaborate closely with the Project Lead and Workshop Team, ensuring designs are executed in the most practical and efficient way possible.\n\nKey Benefits\n\nMonday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm\nSalary - Circa £45 negotiable depending on experience\n8% Employer Pension Contribution\n21 days + 8 bank holidays Annual Leave\nComprehensive Medical Insurance\nProfessional Development Support\nKey Responsibilities\n\nDesign and develop mechanical components and assemblies, from concept through to production and installation (cradle to grave) and implement feedback in next designs\nPerform detailed hand calculations (e.g. stress analysis, bolted/welded joint assessments, load calculations).\nProduce and review detailed 3D models and technical drawings using CAD software (SolidWorks or AutoCAD 3D ; Inventor experience also considered).\nCollaborate with the fabrication and workshop teams to ensure manufacturability and adherence to welding/fabrication standards.\nApply relevant British and international design standards and calculations\nProvide technical support to project managers, fabricators, and site teams.\nEnsure compliance with all internal quality, safety, and environmental standards.\nSkills & Experience\n\nDegree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.\nProven experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably within infrastructure or heavy fabrication.\nStrong competence in manual hand calculations for structural and mechanical elements.\nIn-depth understanding of welding principles and fabrication processes.\nProficient in CAD software – SolidWorks highly , but AutoCAD 3D or Inventor also considered.\nFamiliarity with industry standards (BS, EN, ISO).\nExcellent critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and communication abilities.\nStrong team player who enjoys collaborating across disciplines.\nDesirable\n\nExperience in infrastructure or construction engineering.\nFamiliarity with FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation).\nAt Venatu Recruitment Group, your right to privacy is important to us.
