Mechanical Design Engineer, Full-time Permanent, Up to £50,000 DOE Location: North Gloucestershire (between Cheltenham & Tewkesbury)

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and fast-growing automation and engineering business seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their expanding design team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a creative and technically skilled engineer with a strong background in bespoke automation machinery design, including complex sub-assemblies,conveyors, and special-purpose machinery.
You’ll be involved from concept through to completion developing innovative mechanical solutions that integrate seamlessly into fully automated systems. Working with a close-knit team of engineers, you’ll design, detail, and deliver projects that genuinely make an impact in modern manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop new and existing components and assemblies for custom automation systems
  • Work from concept to detailed 3D design using Autodesk Inventor
  • Produce Bills of Materials (BoMs) and technical documentation
  • Support site layout design and contribute to project reviews
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal engineering teams throughout the design lifecycle
  • Ensure designs meet performance, quality, and cost requirements
  • Support testing, build, and commissioning stages where required
  • Essential Skills & Experience:
  • 5+ years’ experience in the design of industrial automation machinery or special-purpose equipment
  • Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor (able to hit the ground running)
  • Proven experience designing bespoke machines, conveyors, or complex sub-assemblies
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Confident producing design documentation and collaborating cross-functionally
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Eligible to work and live in the UK
  • Must have own transport (rural site location)
