Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading engineering team working on cutting-edge defence projects. This is a 6-month contract role, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to the design and development of high-integrity components and systems for use in demanding military environments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop innovative and robust design solutions using requirement specifications and design briefs.
  • Create detailed CAD models using CREO Parametric, from concept through to production-ready designs.
  • Produce supporting engineering documentation including calculations and analysis to validate design decisions.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, users, and design authorities to evolve concept designs into manufacturable solutions.
  • Work closely with other design engineers and CAD specialists to deliver integrated sub-system designs.
  • Prepare and present design review packages to senior engineers and stakeholders.
  • Support prototype production, working with manufacturing and procurement teams.
  • Conduct physical testing and design validation of prototypes.
  • Ensure all designs meet industry, programme, and legislative standards, including safety requirements.


Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong background in the Defence sector, particularly with Armoured Fighting Vehicles and related systems (e.g. survivability, lethality, sensors, communications).
  • Proven experience in mechanical design and development of sub-systems and components.
  • Advanced proficiency in CREO Parametric CAD software and use of Windchill PDM systems.
  • Deep understanding of complex mechanical systems, mechanisms, and kinematic principles.
  • Capable of performing structural and kinematic calculations to support design decisions.
  • Familiarity with materials and finishing technologies used in Defence applications.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to produce high-quality engineering documentation.
  • Strong planning, coordination, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
