Overview

The Mechanical Engineer (Senior, Principal, Senior Principal or Experienced) - Hydropower role at Stantec. Stantec is working on many of the world’s largest, complex and most exciting dams and hydro projects. The opportunity is to join our dynamic team as a Principal Mechanical Engineer, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions. This is a great opportunity to join a growing multi-disciplinary team involved in projects such as Coire Glas in Scotland, Koysha in Ethiopia, and Dinorwig in Wales.

Responsibilities

• The Mechanical Engineers are responsible for the mechanical engineering elements of solutions and the production of associated outline and detailed designs to support the successful delivery of projects.


• Work with a multi-disciplinary design group and the Client to undertake technical audits, risk evaluations, develop mechanical design and liaise with other technical disciplines at feasibility, outline and detailed stages to produce solutions in a timely and cost-effective manner.


• Develop cost-effective solutions and adopt innovative design solutions in accordance with the Client's requirements.

About You

• Chartered or Incorporated status with IMechE is preferred or working towards.


• Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant subject.


• Ability to plan and prioritise workload effectively.


• Experience of design and specification of mechanical systems in an industrial context.


• Experience with rotating machinery.


• Knowledge and skills in the planning, specification, design, procurement and commissioning of mechanical equipment for projects in the energy sector.


• Ideally you will be competent user of 3D modelling software e.g. Revit or AutoCAD, have experience of working within a BIM environment, and have experience of hydropower applications.


• Experience with pump and large-bore valve specification and selection; experience with balance of plant and other systems typically found in hydropower applications (e.g. HVAC, cooling water, oil recovery, hydraulic control systems, governors, fire suppression, mechanical services).
