The Opportunity

Stantec is working on many of the world’s largest, complex and most exciting dams and hydro projects. Due to our ongoing success we are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions.

It is a great opportunity to join a growing multi disciplinary team involved in projects such as Coire Glas in Scotland, Koysha in Ethiopia, and Dinorwig in Wales.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the mechanical engineering elements of solutions and the production of outline and detailed designs to support successful delivery of projects.
• Work with a multi-disciplinary design group to undertake technical audits, risk evaluations, develop mechanical design and liaise with other technical disciplines at feasibility, outline and detailed stages to produce timely and cost-effective solutions.
• Develop cost-effective solutions and adopt innovative design solutions in accordance with the Client’s requirements.

About You

• Chartered or Incorporated status with IMechE is preferred or working towards.
• Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant subject.
• Ability to plan and prioritise workload effectively.
• Experience of design and specification of mechanical systems in an industrial context; experience with rotating machinery.
• Knowledge of planning, specification, design, procurement and commissioning of mechanical equipment for projects in the energy sector.
• Ideally competent in 3D modelling software (e.g., Revit or AutoCAD), BIM environment experience, and hydropower applications. Experience with pump and large-bore valve specification and selection. Familiarity with balance of plant and other systems typical in hydropower (HVAC, cooling water, oil recovery, hydraulic control systems, governors, fire suppression, mechanical services).
