Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Location: Confidential (Northwest UK, Must be will to relocate for this position))
Full-time | Permanent | 40 hours per week | Days only.
We’re seeking a hands-on and dependable Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a respected food manufacturing organisation. This role is ideal for a mechanically minded engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in keeping critical production equipment running at peak performance.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you’ll be part of the on-site engineering team, working to ensure machinery and plant equipment are maintained safely, efficiently, and in line with operational and regulatory standards. Your work will directly impact uptime, safety, and production continuity across the site.
Key responsibilities:

Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on production and processing equipment
*
Diagnose and repair mechanical faults with pumps, conveyors, mixers, and packaging lines
*
Support the development and execution of maintenance schedules (PPMs)
*
Log maintenance tasks and manage spare parts usage using internal systems
*
Ensure health & safety procedures, risk assessments, and LOTO protocols are followed
*
Work flexibly to support production schedules, including shift adjustments where required
*
Assist with site facility tasks and ad hoc engineering support as needed
What We’re Looking For
Experience & Qualifications:
*
Recognised mechanical engineering qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, BTec, HNC)
*
4–6 years' experience in a manufacturing, food, or FMCG environment
*
Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills
*
Familiarity with PPM systems and mechanical compliance practices
*
Awareness of safety regulations (e.g., PUWER, LOLER, PSSR, HASAWA)
*
Basic understanding of electrical systems is a bonus

Able to work under pressure and solve problems methodically

Attention to detail and strong time management
*
Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
*
Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
