Job Description

The Opportunity

Berkshire Talent Partnership is recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer on behalf of our client, a leading player in the UK’s energy infrastructure sector. This is a 12-month contract role, working on high-profile projects in renewable energy, gas peaking, and energy storage.

You’ll be at the heart of the project delivery process — managing design reviews, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring every stage meets strict safety, quality, and performance standards.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage your own workload to deliver against project design specifications, budgets, and timelines.
  • Collaborate with designers, contractors, project managers, planners, and procurement teams to develop and execute project plans.
  • Conduct site assessments to evaluate feasibility and gather technical requirements.
  • Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Review design developments with suppliers, taking documentation through IFC (Issue for Construction) and IAB (Issue As Built) stages.
  • Support site teams in resolving TQs and NCRs, liaising with PMs and procurement on solutions.
  • Participate in risk reviews, lessons learned sessions, and project reporting.
  • Represent the company in meetings with contractors and design teams.
  • Provide input to the project’s Health & Safety file and ensure residual risks are actively managed.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience: 5–10 years in renewables, energy generation, or similar (e.g., gas peaking, energy storage, wind, solar), with a strong track record in construction project delivery.
  • Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
  • Technical Skills: Broad mechanical engineering knowledge, including civil and electrical interfaces.
  • Bonus Skills: Knowledge of gas peaking plant construction, AutoCAD 2D, Navisworks, SMSTS or CSCS certification.
  • Personal Qualities: Excellent attention to detail, clear communicator, and confident relationship-builder with both office and site-based teams.

Why Apply?

This is an opportunity to join a major infrastructure project at a pivotal stage. You’ll be contributing to work that supports the UK’s energy transition and helps deliver sustainable, resilient power solutions.
