Naval Engineer – Submarine Systems (Technical Advice & In-Service Support)

Location: Filton & Abbey Wood (Hybrid)

Salary: Up to £61,500 + Excellent Benefits

A leading engineering services provider, supporting some of the UK’s most complex and high-profile defence programmes, is seeking an experienced Naval Engineer to join its Submarine Systems team. This role is based across Filton and the MOD site at Abbey Wood, delivering authoritative technical support on in-service Royal Navy submarine platforms.

This is a rare opportunity to work as a trusted technical advisor at the heart of the UK submarine enterprise, interfacing directly with both MOD stakeholders and internal engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as a technical query focal point for mechanical and structural submarine systems across Astute, Vanguard, and Trafalgar class platforms.
• Provide expert engineering input, including fault investigation, design assessments, and risk evaluations.
• Deliver authoritative advice to MOD stakeholders on system performance, safety, and availability.
• Liaise between the MOD customer, enterprise partners, and wider engineering and manufacturing teams.
• Contribute to design changes, safety case reviews, and Learning from Experience (LfE) activities.

Candidate Profile:

• Experience in submarine, maritime, or naval engineering with a focus on in-service support or sustainment.
• Comfortable advising senior stakeholders and communicating complex technical issues clearly.
• Familiarity with mechanical and/or structural systems in a defence or maritime context.
• Experience working with or supporting Royal Navy submarine platforms.
• Ex-Royal Navy (e.g. Marine Engineer, Weapon Engineer Officer, CPO)
• Knowledge of MOD governance, safety case development, or platform integration
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Systems, or Marine Engineering
