Overview Jefferies is seeking a Network Segmentation and Security Engineer to join as a Vice President in the Information Security team with accountability for researching, designing, engineering, implementing, and supporting network security solutions targeting emerging technologies such as micro segmentation. The Network Security Engineer will be a hands-on engineering position that requires a high degree of technical expertise to interact with other engineering and application development teams to drive alignment on security requirements, influence decision makers, build relationships, and communicate strategy and architecture to the broader internal community while protecting the company’s assets. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable with Illumio and micro-segmentation, with experience in management of firewalls and firewall policies (Palo Alto preferred), WAF, IPS, NDR, etc. The role offers opportunities to work with subject matter experts across security, infrastructure, network, development, and business teams. We hire for individuals who can work with minimal supervision as part of a team that delivers innovative solutions in the financial markets vertical. Candidates should be able to prioritize and communicate complex issues effectively. Primary Responsibilities
Play a critical role in the architecture, development, deployment, and management of Jefferies’s Network Segmentation (Micro segmentation) solution leveraging Illumio, and ServiceNow as part of the global information security team. Work with the Networking Security Engineering team on the architecture, deployment, and management of the global network segmentation deployment with a focus on security architecture. Deploy and implement micro-segmentation through the Illumio product for applications and endpoints. Analyze and troubleshoot escalated issues related to Network/Micro segmentation through Illumio, both independently and in a team setting. Analyze and troubleshoot escalated issues for Palo Alto Firewalls, GlobalProtect VPN, Cloudflare WAF, NDR, Network Access Control, ISE, Web-Browser Isolation, Network Security Policy Management, and other related network security platforms; perform root cause analysis and drive resolution. Collaborate with Network Engineering, Operations, Security Engineering, and Operations teams to integrate security at every level of the network. Coordinate with Infrastructure and Applications Teams to align Network Security Policies with the needs and expectations of each team and the company.
Required Background
Significant experience with Micro-Segmentation and specifically the Illumio product. Networking and Firewalling experience, including Palo Alto Firewalls (User-ID, App-ID, Security Policies, etc.). Proficient with network troubleshooting tools (sniffer, syslog, NetFlow, TCPDUMP, Wireshark, etc.). Demonstrated knowledge of Intrusion Detection, Incident Response, Data Encryption, Network Access Controls, Threat Management, and proper IT security controls. Working knowledge of the OSI model, subnetting, including CIDR notation. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing business needs. Ability to work well with cross-functional global and remote teams. Self-disciplined, self-starter able to provide leadership and mentor others while resolving complex incidents and delivering projects. Strong problem-solving and communication skills to translate business vision into security architecture. Ability to be on-call 24/7 in case of emergencies. Willingness to learn new technologies in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable Skills
Hands-on experience deploying and managing an Illumio environment. Illumio Core Associate/Specialist/Expert credentials; relevant networking and security certifications (e.g., CCNA/CCNP, PCSNE, Security+). Experience with Checkpoint, Fortinet, Proofpoint, Cloudflare, F5 Silverline, SSL certificate management, Palo Alto Prisma Access, or other Zero Trust/SASE products. Knowledge of scripting languages, specifically Python.
